Virtual Documentary Night: The Secret History of the Credit Card [Voting Night]

**YOU MUST WATCH THE FILM ON YOUR OWN BEFORE THIS EVENT**

For this Virtual Documentary Night we have voted to talk about the documentary, The Secret History of the Credit Card. The average American family today carries eight credit cards. Credit card debt and personal bankruptcies are now at an all time high. With no legal limit on the amount of interest or fees that can be charged, credit cards have become the most profitable sector of the American banking industry: more than $30 billion in profits last year alone. FRONTLINE and The New York Times examine how the credit card industry became so pervasive, so lucrative, and so politically powerful. Again, you must watch the film before attending this event. Here is a link to where you can watch the film for free.

The only requirement is that the film must be available to watch online for free. If you need any ideas, you can search through the Flyers Page on the Community Documentary Night website. It is full of flyers based around certain themes and each flyer is full of documentary posters, which are hyperlinked to where you watch the films for free. Something to consider is that next month is July, which is Disability Pride Month, and July 4th is Independence Day. Check out the [Disability Pride Month](https://documentarynight.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/july-disability-pride-month-2025g.pdf) and the [Independence Day](https://documentarynight.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/independence-day-2025e.pdf) flyers if you're interested in recommending a film in honor of these holidays.

Again, you must watch the film on your own BEFORE the event. We will be meeting over Zoom, where we will bre
