Daily news, opinion pieces, and stories from across the VEGANS EXPLORE ecosystem. New content, every day.
Day two of the Vegans Explore New York City tour opens live from the floor of Plant Based World Expo, with founder Sean A. Russell recapping a first night in the city that started with a stranger's generosity.
After landing at LaGuardia and noticing vegan options waiting right at the gate, Sean made his way to Veggie Castle in Queens for Caribbean comfort food. Watching another customer order first to get a feel for local favorites, he settled on macaroni and cheese, rice, and a few staff recommendations. The meal, he says, ranks among the best vegan Caribbean food he has had.
The real story of the night happened at the register. The woman who had ordered ahead of him had already quietly paid for his meal before leaving. Sean calls it the perfect way to kick off the tour, and pushes back gently on the stereotype that New Yorkers are less friendly than people in the South.
The bigger news from day two: Vegans Explore is building a Passport Program, a paid community launching January 11 that will fund travel, storytelling, and platform growth. Until launch, Sean is prioritizing input over ticket sales, inviting early members to help shape what the community becomes.
