As someone whose roots are deeply connected to Jamaica, watching the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa has been heartbreaking. Entire communities have been uprooted, families are without power, and many are struggling to access basic necessities like food, water, and shelter.

This moment isn’t just about headlines—it’s about people. It’s about my homeland.

In my role as District Webmaster for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), I’m honored to support a districtwide initiative that’s mobilizing resources to help those affected by this disaster. BCPS is partnering with organizations across Broward County to collect donations and deliver relief directly to Jamaica.

How You Can Help

From now through December 19, 2025, you can drop off new, unopened supplies at BCPS offices and partner locations across the county, including BrightStar Credit Union and the Broward Teachers’ Union.

Most-needed items include:

  • Bottled water and non-perishable food
  • Hygiene and baby care products
  • Blankets, first-aid kits, and cleaning supplies
  • Generators, flashlights, and batteries

A Call for Compassion

I’ve spent my career creating platforms that bring people together—through media, storytelling, and community action. Today, I’m asking for something simple but powerful: help us help Jamaica.

Whether you donate supplies, give financially, or share this message with others, your compassion will make a real difference for families in need.

Together, we can remind the world that kindness still leads the way.
